Notes for COPIC AWARD 2024 Applicants: Tips about Your Entry Images, etc.

 2024.04.17

In the first round of judging for the COPIC AWARD, the judges look at each uploaded image to select the shortlisted entries.
However, since there are thousands of entries for the AWARD, the judges must first view the thumbnail of all the entries on their computer screens.

Therefore, the appearance and impression of the thumbnail are very important to attract the judges' attention to your entry.

●Basic Notes on Entry Images

Please upload images after avoiding problems such as lack of enough brightness, incorrect orientation, objects other than the entry being largely visible so that the entry itself cannot be clearly seen, etc.

●Rules for Entry Images

You may upload up to three jpg images of your entry via the application form on the official COPIC AWARD website.
Please choose an image that gives an overall view of the work, a close-up of the part you want to make stand out the most, or an image taken from a different angle, etc.
(Please note that images other than the entry will not be accepted from the 2024 AWARD).
Each image must be no larger than 5MB, and the total size of the three images must be no larger than 15 MB.

●Fill out the comments section of the application and register your social media account information

During the judging process, we may consider not only the images of your entry but also your thoughts about the entry and the background that led you to create and submit your work, and we may use the comments section as a reference.
We may also look at your social media accounts to confirm if you actually use Copic or other analog art materials to create your artwork.

Next, we would like to share some tips on how to make your entry images stand out, with a few examples from the 2023 AWARD winning entries:

●Adjust the entry image to emphasize the part you want to show

E.g. COPIC AWARD  2023 Regional Awards (APAC) winner
"Summertime" by Tyo Mochi

●Pay attention to blank spaces and differences between light and dark areas in your entry and make the contrasts clear.

E.g. COPIC AWARD 2023 Finalist
"Aquarium" by Saori

●Pay attention to the placement of colors in your entry and make the contrasts clear.
E.g. COPIC AWARD 2023 Finalist
"Opuntia" by META

Of course, your entry does not have to reflect the above, but we hope you find these tips helpful in drawing attention to the images in your entry.
We also strongly encourage you to fill out the comments section of the application and register your social media account information.

If your entry is not selected or does not win the prize for the 2024 AWARD, we may still contact you about a collaboration or even a job opportunity. Providing us with as much information as possible about your entry and who you are as an artist may lead to unexpected career opportunities!
